The temple was constructed in the 1600’s by Kin-Fok, 景福, aka Yee-Kai Lo of the 14th generation. The temple was built with very fine craftsmanship and extraordinary stone carving and decorated with many fine paintings. Unfortunately most of the art work was damaged by the Red Guard during Mao’s Cultural Revolution, or rather, the Cultural Destruction. Although evidence of some repairs had been done the damage is so extensive that restoration will be very difficult and expensive. Both Yee-Kar Lo’s father and grandfather were outstanding elite scholars (状元) and that could explain the resources for building this elaborate temple at the time.
Both the Temple site and the Mausoleum look relatively new. The Temple looks like it is being set up as a historical site and could also serve as an official meeting place. Looking at the many new family homes and the relatively new Mausoleum (1993) as well as the site set up for the Temple one may come to the conclusion that the government funding to these projects must be substantial. One can only speculate that transfer of property and land rights must be part of the deal.
